Crestor is used to lower cholesterol levels in diet and exercise alone have failed to work. The drug can help reduce total cholesterol as well as to harmful levels of low density lipoproteins (LDL). May also reduce triglycerides, a type of fat that is carried through the bloodstream and can be stored as body fat. Crestor can sometimes combined with other cholesterol-lowering medication such as cholestyramine, colesevelam, or colestipol.
In addition, Crestor can help increase the amount of “good” cholesterol known as high-density lipoprotein (HDL).
It is especially important to keep LDL cholesterol under control because high levels are associated with heart disease. Federal guidelines recommend considering drug therapy when LDL levels reach 130 in people at high risk of heart disease. For people with a lower risk, the court is 160. For those with little or no risk, 190.

How should you take Crestor?
Crestor taken once daily with or without food. You can take the drug at any time, but it’s best to make a habit of taking at the same time every day to prevent loss of dose. Swallow each tablet whole with a glass of water.
If you need to take an antacid that contains aluminum hydroxide and magnesium, have at least 2 hours after taking Crestor.
If you miss a dose …
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at the same time.
Storage instructions …
Store at room temperature and protect from moisture.
What side effects may occur?
Side effects can not be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe to continue using Crestor.
It is especially important to tell your doctor if you have unusual muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness of which accompanied by fever or a general feeling of illness and fatigue (see “Special warnings about Crestor).
Side effects may include:
Abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, headache, indigestion, nausea, sore throat
Why not Crestor should be prescribed?
Do not take Crestor if you have liver disease or if you have ever had an allergic reaction to drugs.
Also, never taking Crestor during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
